Sanglap: The Voice Behind Audience No More and the Courage to Dream Differently

Some writers create stories from imagination, while others draw inspiration from the ordinary struggles they witness around them. For Sanglap, the 27-year-old Bengali author of Audience No More, writing is a way of questioning the world and imagining a life beyond its expectations.

Born and raised in Kolkata, Sanglap grew up in a nuclear family where Rabindranath Tagore came before Shakespeare. The city’s old bookshops, familiar streets, tram bells, and monsoon evenings became part of his emotional landscape. These experiences helped shape his imagination and his connection with storytelling. After completing his graduation in commerce, Sanglap entered the world of digital marketing. His professional life revolves around numbers, campaigns, narratives, and understanding people’s attention. Yet beyond these responsibilities lies a mind constantly exploring possibilities. He dreams of a world where kindness comes naturally, curiosity is encouraged, and people have the freedom to live without unnecessary pressure.

His debut novel, Audience No More, reflects many of these ideas through a story about ambition, uncertainty, emotional struggle, and personal transformation. The novel follows a 27-year-old Bengali man from Kolkata who feels trapped in a cycle of professional disappointment and financial pressure. Despite changing several companies over five years, he struggles to find stability. His earnings disappear into rent, food, and family responsibilities, leaving little room for dreams. The emotional burden gradually becomes overwhelming. At one point, the protagonist experiences thoughts of ending his life. However, conversations with his sister and professional counselling help him recognise that his painful thoughts do not define his future. This part of the story brings an important human dimension to the narrative, acknowledging how difficult circumstances can affect emotional well-being.

As the story progresses, the protagonist begins searching for an alternative to conventional employment. After considering and rejecting numerous business ideas, he discovers a possibility through an AI assistant. With just ₹10,000, he decides to launch an online store. Without a website or substantial resources, he uses social media, digital skills, and artificial intelligence to build his business. The journey is far from easy. Problems with suppliers, negative customer feedback, and personal mistakes repeatedly challenge his determination.

Eventually, his efforts lead to remarkable financial success. However, the novel suggests that achievement cannot be measured through money alone. The protagonist’s greatest victory comes from rediscovering his confidence, rebuilding his relationships, and finding a sense of belonging. Through this story, Sanglap explores a question that many young professionals quietly confront: What happens when the life society expects from us no longer feels meaningful? His background in digital marketing adds a contemporary perspective to the novel. Rather than presenting entrepreneurship as an effortless path to wealth, the narrative acknowledges uncertainty, setbacks, and the importance of learning through experience.

Beyond professional ambitions, Sanglap remains deeply connected to his Bengali roots. He describes himself as belonging to two worlds: the comfort of home, familiar food, and cultural traditions, and the limitless possibilities waiting beyond geographical boundaries.

This balance between belonging and exploration appears central to his writing.

With Audience No More, Sanglap introduces readers to a story about refusing to remain a passive observer of one’s own life. It speaks to people who feel unsuccessful, delayed, or uncertain about their direction.

For Sanglap, storytelling becomes an invitation to imagine something different. His literary journey begins with a simple yet meaningful belief: a person’s circumstances may shape the beginning of their story, but they need not determine its ending.
